Make Time for Personal Development (Even When You’re Stretched Thin)

If you’re like the vast majority of network marketers, you want to build a thriving business that allows you to do what you do best – help others. You work hard to connect with your customers and distributors, dedicate an hour a day to your Power Hour, nurture your relationships so that your network introduces you to people in their networks – what more can you do? Although doing all of these things are sure to put you on the path to a successful business, it’s important to do one thing – dedicate time to personal development.

The benefits of personal development

At Teamzy, we’re big on the benefits of personal development. We understand that, while you can build a business without it, you’re more likely to lead a lasting and thriving business with it. Without personal development, business growth is confined; with personal development, your business has the potential to grow exponentially. In fact, the more you grow your self, the more you’ll grow your business. How?

Your skills pay the bills

It’s not just your skills, either; it’s also your knowledge and experience. Sure, you can make a sale or two with the knowledge you have, but you’ll get the tools to adapt to the changing needs of your customers and the market if you commit to expanding them. And, all the skills and knowledge you learn you can share with your team, making you look like an all-star in their eyes and adding to your bottom line as they get more and more sales by applying what you’ve taught them.

Serve your customers better

When you work relationally and from the heart, service is at the core of what you do. Personal development gives you the tips and strategies for ramping up the services you offer. You’ll learn ways to be more attentive to their needs, whether they tell you directly or mention them in passing. You’ll also improve your interpersonal skills and find out how to smoothly ask what’s going on in their lives without sounding awkward. This will provide a ton of insight into new ways you can help them, either with your business or by connecting them with someone in your network.

Manage your business like a BOSS

Running an organized business is a talent that the vast majority of us don’t have naturally. Although a system can give you the tools and tactics to follow, personal development and training show you how to apply it effectively in your business. Specifically, a CRM – like Teamzy – can help you stay organized each and every day. Additionally, Teamzy features short training videos to give you the edge over the competition. Watch them again and again and apply what you’ve learned right away.

What’s more, is that Teamzy keeps you organized in your business so that you have more time for training and personal development. You’ll never wonder what to do next – just consult your Dashboard and see who to contact and how. It makes your Power Hour even more powerful!

Build a business that lasts

Although it’s the intention of most network marketers to build a business that lasts, the odds can be against them. You see, when you follow the traditional, icky sales methods, you’ll burn out more quickly than someone who works relationally. However, even then, you may reach a point where you feel as if your business can’t possibly grow any larger – everyone you know is in your network!

Here’s the good news, your network can still expand and grow. The secret is to tap into the resources you have at hand – your existing network. They can introduce you to the people in their networks who may benefit the most from the products, services, and opportunities you’re offering.

With personal development, you’ll learn the strategies and scripts to use to transition the conversation to one about your business and opportunity. Additionally, you’ll learn the ins and outs of relationship marketing and how it can help you build a lasting business.

Make time for personal development in your day

This part is the biggest struggle for so many of us. We know we need to work on personal development, but we’re strapped for time. On a given day, we’re being pulled in many different directions by our businesses, those we love, and our other commitments in life; it can feel impossible to fit it all in. Don’t give up – there are things you can do to squeeze in personal development into your day.

Schedule it in

If it’s not on the calendar, it won’t get done. When you take the time to write something on your calendar, you’re more likely to get it done. Think of it as a date you have with yourself every day. You can’t possibly miss it, can you?

How long you schedule your personal development is up to you. Although in an ideal world, you could dedicate 30 minutes a day, sometimes – okay, most times – it doesn’t work out that way. Instead, schedule in 10 or 15 minutes. In that time, you can watch a training video on Teamzy, read a chapter in a book by an inspirational business or industry leader, or listen to a chapter of an audiobook.

Pro Tip:  In addition to scheduling time for personal development, think about squeezing it in at other points throughout the day. For example, if you finish your Power Hour early, use the remaining time to read or listen to a book or watch training.

Listen to audiobooks

Don’t have time to read? Join the club – many people are just too busy to open a book or flip through an ebook. But, that doesn’t mean you have to skip reading altogether. Instead, turn your car, the gym, or your daily walk into your classroom and listen to an audiobook. It’s multi-tasking at its best!

Subscribe to a service, such as Audible, and you can stream a variety of books, including new releases. Listen to a chapter or two while you commute, run errands, pound miles on the treadmill, or walk the dog. If you hear something that hits home with you or that you want to remember, listen to it again later.

Pro Tip:  Not sure what to read? Ask your mentor, upline, and the well-read people you admire for their recommendations. Then, spread the love and recommend the books you enjoyed to those you know.

Make it a habit

It’s much hard to put things off when they’ve become a habit. Think about it, how weird would it feel to not brush your teeth in the morning? Or not fix your morning coffee or smoothie? You wouldn’t dream of it, right? The same goes for other habits, including taking five or 10 minutes of your day to focus on personal development.

The key to building a habit is to do it consistently every day. Aim for doing it at the same time each day, whether it’s when you first wake up, at midday after you’ve completed your Power Hour, or as you wind down at bedtime. It doesn’t matter when you do it; what matters is that you do it consistently each day.

Pro Tip: Set a reminder on your phone to read, listen to an audiobook, or watch a training. When the alarm goes off, get to work on your mind and skills.

Plan to take a training or workshop twice a year

Books and short videos are great ways to maintain your skills and learn something new. However, a multi-week training or workshop can give you a crash course in the skills and knowledge you need to take your business to that next level.

On the surface, it seems as if these courses will take up a larger chunk of your time than you expected. However, the ones we offer don’t require a ton of time. Sure, you have to watch the video and do the activities, but it’s not much in addition to your normal daily business workload. In fact, you may even be able to add it to your normal Power Hour routine.

One training we’ve heard rave reviews about is the Art of Creating Conversations that Convert. After all, transitioning the conversation to a sale or discussion of your business is a huge challenge for most network marketers. This 7-lesson training gives you the most effective tactics you need to make this transition in any conversation so you can grow your business and build your network.
