Many network marketers got into the industry because they loved their products so much that they wanted to share that love with everyone they know. What’s better than earning money while you talk about the products or services that have improved your life? Since their lives have been improved so much, they can’t wait to help others improve their lives as well.
Traditional network marketing techniques, which rely on pushy sales techniques, left many cold. Those pushy sales techniques often ended up burning bridges instead of building them with everyone in the network. That’s why so many network marketers appreciate relationship marketing instead. Nurturing relationships is an act of love. It’s finding ways to serve and help the people in your network, your team, and those who have been introduced to you. Service is an act of love. When you serve someone, you show that you care. The other person feels as if they matter, even more than making a sale. Traditional methods of network marketing often left customers feeling as if all they were was a potential sale. That’s why so many relationships were burned in the process of someone building a business. And, that’s no way to build a business. To build a strong network marketing business, it’s essential to create the foundation of a strong network supported by advocates. These advocates are folks who will shout your praises from the rooftops and believe in you along the way.
However, people don’t just become strong advocates; this comes from trust. Your network has to trust you, and trust takes time. The more you connect with your network and check in the more they know that you see them as more than a potential sale. The more you help them, the more they’ll learn to trust you. Over time, they’ll seek out your expertise and will appreciate that you’ve taken the time to build relationships with them.
This takes practice and consistency. It all begins with checking in with them when you say you will. Even if someone in your network asks you something you’re not sure of, you should know where to find the information. The more you know about your industry, the more trust you’ll be able to build with your network.
Additionally, grow your knowledge of business in general. Many of the challenges you’ll face in business are common ones that every business leader faces at some point on their journey to success. The more prepared you are for the challenge, the better prepared you’ll be to handle it.
How can you prepare? Read books by business leaders and industry experts you admire. Chances are their road to success wasn’t smooth – learn from their mistakes and their successes. Subscribe to magazines and online resources that offer tips and resources to help you become better in your business.
Don’t have time to read? Watch videos, listen to podcasts, and listen to audiobooks to help you take your business to that next level. The best part about these resources is you can listen to them anywhere, while you’re waiting to pick your kids up from school or their activities, during your workout, or even during your Power Hour.
Speaking of your Power Hour, if you find that you’re connecting with everyone you need to within twenty minutes or so, use the rest of the time to work on yourself. Participate in training to help you sharpen your skills. Listen to positive music or podcasts to help you stay in the right mindset. You could also schedule time to check in with your coach or mentor to help you work through any mental roadblocks and get advice to help you achieve your goals.
Love your network tip #3: Commit to following up
Following up is an act of love. Although we’ll get into it in next week’s blog, following up is the ultimate act that shows you care. Most people forget to follow up – they get busy and it slips their minds, or they’re too nervous to. Often, they talk themselves out of following up because they’re not sure that the other person wanted them to in the first place. But, if you want to continue to grow your business, following up with your network is essential. It’s vital for building trust and it’s important for building strong advocates for your business.
Love your network tip #4: Commit to spreading the love
Sharing is caring and one of the ways you can show your network that you care is by sharing what you know with them. This is especially true of your team. Both your upline and your downline can benefit from your knowledge and experience. Have you read a great article about coming trends in your industry? Share it with your team! Are you experiencing a challenge or frustration? Be transparent with your team and seek their advice. Perhaps they’ve also experienced a similar challenge or are going through the same thing right now. You can brainstorm ideas to overcome it. Are you feeling especially encouraged or motivated right now? Share your motivation with your team – everyone can use an extra surge of motivation!
In network marketing, there are other people on your team who are experiencing the same highs and lows as you. You don’t have to go it alone. You can rely on your team to help you overcome your challenges, and vice versa, whether it’s by providing advice or encouragement when it’s needed the most.
