Sometimes, the goals set are too ambitious for what the person can achieve right now. That is, they may be something that they will be able to achieve in a few years once they have more experience but may be too difficult to achieve right now.

Goal setting tip 3

Once you’ve assessed your goals, you are ready to set new goals for the year ahead. The best time for goal setting is after you have done your assessment. That way, what you want to do and what you want to avoid doing in the future will be top of mind. SMART goals are goals that are specific, measurable, achievable, realistic,  and time-based. Setting them takes time, but the time you take to think through your goals will help you to set goals that are realistic for you.

Specific

Specific goals are detailed. The more detail the better. Outline exactly what you want to achieve, and go into as much detail as possible. Don’t just say you want to increase sales – say you want to increase sales by 10% each quarter. Don’t say you want to increase your network – say you want to add 5 people to your network each week. This gives you something more specific to aim for. Many people, when they set goals, are vague. They say they want to increase sales. How will they know if they’ve achieved their goal if they are not specific? Spare no detail when describing your goals.

Measurable

Metrics track your progress. When your goals are measurable, you will always know how close, or how far away, you are from achieving them. when you know this information. It is easier to stay on track or catch up if you have an unexpected event.  Know your numbers and keep track of them. This gives you a clear picture of where you are in achieving your goals and keeps you motivated and accountable. Teamzy helps you track your numbers. Once you’ve completed your activities, input them into Teamzy. It will use these figures to track your progress toward your goals.

Achievable

It’s important to make sure that your goals are achievable. Sure, you may feel super ambitious; however, make sure that the goals that you set are those that you can reach at this point in your business. For example, Many network marketers set ambitious goals to triple their business the second year. However, if it was tough to set the foundation in the first year, it may be difficult to meet this goal the second year. Review your numbers from the previous year before setting goals in the next year. That way, you’ll have a more realistic view of what you will be able to achieve in the year ahead.

Realistic

Your goals should complement your ability in regard to knowledge, time, and resources. Yes, your goals should be ambitious, but make sure they’re achievable as well. It’s important to find that balance between ambition and what you know you can achieve. If you have a very ambitious goal, save it for a longer time frame, such as a 5-year goal. For example, you may want to triple your sales this year, but if it was difficult to reach your goals this year, this may not be a realistic goal. Perhaps you want to increase your sales by 50% this year and make tripling sales your long-term goal. Although you may keep ambitious goals as long-range goals, create goals that are more realistic for where you are right now.

Be honest with yourself about your abilities and other considerations. sure, you may want to be a top salesperson, but if you’re just starting out you’ll have to adjust for your learning curve.

Time-based

Everyone needs a deadline. If you give yourself a deadline, you have a due date to strive for. How long do you need to achieve your success goals? Can you achieve it in a year or will it take longer? Set your frame of time accordingly. For medium to long-term goals, it’s helpful to set milestones in between. This helps you stay on track. Once you reach a milestone, you know what is possible and, if you have difficulty reaching that milestone, then you know that you need to adjust accordingly.
