Inspire Your Team to Thrive This Spring
At this time of year, your team may be feeling their motivation wane. After starting the year on a high note, and with a desire to achieve our goals for the year, over time that motivation begins to slow down. Add into the mix that spring is in the air, it’s a time when our lives become a hive of activity. Who wants to or has time to work on our network marketing businesses when it’s so beautiful outside? Right now, you may be seeking ways to inspire your team to stay on track and recommit to their goals.
Low motivation often occurs when we don’t continue to feed that motivation on a weekly, and even daily, basis. That’s not to say you and your team need to maintain a high level of motivation all the time – that often leads to burnout. However, maintaining a consistent level of motivation will not only help you succeed, but it will also encourage your team to maintain their motivation as well.
Tip #1: Set the example for relationship marketing
“It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickest by helping others to succeed.”
– Napolean Hill
If you want your team to use relationship marketing in their businesses, you have to model it yourself. In other words, show them the behavior you want them to exhibit instead of just telling them what to do.
For example, if you want them to set goals, show them how to create SMART goals that will help them thrive in their businesses. Then, follow up with them to keep them on track. Ask how they’re progressing toward their short-, mid-, and long-range goals. If they’re on-track, congratulate them and tell them to keep it up. If they’re falling off-track, offer advice and inspirational words to motivate them to correct their course. There’s always time to course-correct and since it’s still early in the year, they’ll still be able to achieve their goals, especially if they course-correct now.
Another example is following up. If the people on your team have trouble remembering to follow up, offer your best advice and tips to help them remember. Then, use them yourself to follow up with them. Follow up with them to see if they completed their follow-ups of their network every day or every other day. When you show them how to follow up, you give them the tools to practice it themselves.
The same is true for a daily (or several times a week) Power Hour. If you want your team to connect to their networks consistently and regularly, show them how to do it. Share when you do your Power Hour and follow up with them during that time. Check in with them to remind them to do theirs. When you show your team that you practice what you preach, they’re more likely to do it themselves.
Tip #2: Inspire positivity
“You need to be aware of what others are doing, applaud their efforts, acknowledge their successes, and encourage them in their pursuits. When we all help one another, everybody wins.”
– Jim Stovall
A positive attitude fosters motivation, both your own and your team’s. In addition to sharing and celebrating your own wins and victories – no matter how small – celebrate your team’s as well.
Fill your mind with positivity. Read, listen to, and watch things that uplift and motivate you. There is so much negativity in the world that it can be difficult to stay positive. However, if you seek out positive content, you can change your perspective. A positive perspective can help you face and overcome any challenge you experience. It can also inspire others to become more positive as well.
Share it with your team. When you find a positive resource – a book, article, podcast, etc. – share it with your team. If you have team meetings, discuss the resource, both to motivate your team and to encourage them to discover more positive resources. Do you have a favorite author who inspires you to succeed? Share their name and recommend a book to your team. Did you read an article or quote or listen to a song that inspired you to tackle the challenges of your day? Share it with your team. Chances are, what inspires you will inspire them as well. It will also give them the motivation to seek out positive sources of content on their own.
Catch your team doing something right. Acknowledge your team for doing something right, whether it’s completing their follow ups, doing a Power Hour daily, meeting or exceeding their sales goals, or adding more people to their networks. Celebrate them when you connect with them and to your entire team to encourage them to keep up the good work and motivate others to seek out that recognition.
Tip #3: Share good habits
“Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships.”
– Michael Jordan
Do you have habits of success that help you thrive? We can all learn so much from one another! If you have cultivated the habits of success, share them with your team. Do you have a system that helps you connect with your team, such as Teamzy? Share it with your team and show them how to use it most effectively.
Similarly, is someone on your team a whiz at achieving their goals? Ask them to share their tips with the team. It’s likely that they have also cultivated excellent habits that help them stay on track and achieve their goals.
As we discussed in a blog earlier this month, your habits are closely connected to your success. The better your habits, the better chance you have of achieving your goals and attaining success. The same is true of your team, so inspire them to develop the good habits that will help them succeed.
Tip #4: Be transparent
“Teamwork is the ability to work together toward a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments toward organizational objectives. It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results.”
– Andrew Carnegie
The best leaders are transparent in their experiences. They share what has gone right and what has gone wrong, and in the case of the latter, the lessons they learned in the process. Whether you’ve been in network marketing for 1 month or 1 year, you’ve likely faced challenges on your journey to success. With each challenge, there’s a lesson to learn, especially if it didn’t go according to plan. So, what did you learn?
Once you pinpoint the lesson, share it with your team. Chances are, they’ve also faced the same or similar challenges, or they will in the future. By sharing your experiences and what you learned, you’ll give them the tools they need to face the challenges and inspire them to overcome them.
Tip #5: Encourage consistency
“Many ideas grow better when transplanted into another mind than the one where they sprang up.”
– Oliver Wendell Holmes
Consistency is the key to becoming a thriving network marketer. You have to consistently connect with your network, do your Power Hours, and pursue your goals in order to succeed in any business, especially network marketing. However, consistency is also one of the things people have so much trouble developing into a habit.
Inspire your team to cultivate consistency as a habit by showing them how. Often, that’s the biggest stumbling block they face – they want to become more consistent but they don’t know-how. Give them the tools and tips to make it a reality. Follow up with them to inspire them to develop the habit of consistency and offer praise along the way. This will in turn inspire them to keep persevering.
