Priorities: How to Make Time for Your Business

Time is one thing that no matter how much of it we have, it’s never enough. Between family, professional and personal commitments, it’s often difficult to get it all done. Every minute there’s something new that demands our attention, and as a result, we become too distracted to focus on the things that matter – your priorities. One of those things is our network marketing businesses.

“Most of us spend too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.”

– Stephen R. Covey

Prioritize your business

How often have you put off working on your business to focus on another task that demands your attention on your to-do list? If you’re like many network marketers, it happens often – more often that you’d like to admit. The truth is we get busy. Every time something new demands our attention, it’s normal to want to address it right away. After all, the sooner we can address it, the sooner we can get back to what we were doing, right? Not always. Sometimes the tasks that seem the easiest tend to become the most time-consuming. Before you know it, several hours have passed, including the time you had planned to use to work on your business.

When this happens occasionally, most network marketers can recover. Perhaps you connect with a few more people the next day to make it up. However, when it continues to occur, again and again, moving the business to the back burner becomes a habit.

You have to make time for the things you care about

Many of us do this naturally. We may have date nights with our spouses or family dinners (in person or on Zoom, given the times) to stay connected with our loved ones. We prioritize our time daily to work out so that we can be fit and strong and, perhaps most importantly, tackle all the challenges that come our way. However, how many network marketers set aside time for their businesses and make it one of their top priorities?

For some network marketers, it boils down to how you view your business – is it a business or a hobby. If you view your business as a hobby, it’s easy to keep moving your daily business tasks to the next day and then the next. And, this may be okay for those to whom their business is just something they work on here and there to earn a few extra bucks. However, a network marketer will never achieve their financial goals if they view their businesses as merely a hobby.

If you view your business as a business, then you’re more likely to make time for it. You understand that your Power Hour is an essential part of your day; without it, it’s difficult to grow the business and move forward toward your goals. You’re more likely to feel bad if you miss a Power Hour or another opportunity to connect with your network.

So, how can professional network marketers carve out time in their days for their businesses?

Plan your priorities

It’s easy for the unexpected to hijack your day when you haven’t planned your day in the first place. Sure, many of us have a general schedule, but if you’re not setting aside time for your Power Hour, it’s impossible to be productive.

What are your priorities? Family and health are surely at the top of the list, but as a business owner, your business should be as well.

What is your Why? Your Why is your reason for doing what you do each day. That is, why did you start your business in the first place? Network marketers get into the business for many reasons: to help others, to contribute more money to savings, to save more for retirement or kids’ college, so they can quit their 9 to 5 jobs and be their own bosses. The reasons are endless and personal. However, at the center of it all is your why. Your business can help you achieve the goals that help you live the life you dream of. But, you gotta put in the work first and make it a priority.

Teamzy has created a system where you can reach out and connect with your network for an hour or less a day. You don’t have to wonder who to reach out to first – Teamzy takes all the guesswork out of the equation so you can focus on what you do best… serving your favorite people.

Set aside time for a Power Hour

All you have to do is set aside an hour a day to work on your business. Doesn’t hearing it make it sound easy? It’s not, and there will be distractions that will want to tear you away from your focus.  Ideally, you could do it all in one shot – one hour and you’re done. But, many network marketers don’t have a whole hour available during the day to spend on the business, especially if there are young kids at home or the weather is beautiful. Although the Power Hour is an hour, there’s no requirement that it has to be 60 minutes in a row. It could be 6 10-minute blocks or 4 15-minute blocks – whatever works best with your schedule. And, once you’ve worked through your list of people to connect with, that’s it. You’re free to go about your day.

The important thing is to make it a habit to work on your business – one of your top priorities. It’s not like a regular office job where you have to clock in and out at certain times and stay in your seat for 8 hours. You can “clock in” anytime you wish. It could be in the morning before the rest of the house wakes up; in the afternoon, while the kids are down for a nap or outside playing; or in the evening while everyone is winding down (or at all three times – a little here and a little there). The key is to do it

Don’t forget about your team members

While you’re engaging with your network, it’s also important to check-in and follow up with your team members as well. After all, they may be experiencing the same struggles as you are and need a bit of leadership to help them pull through. If you’re feeling distracted, they may also have distractions that are preventing them from focusing on their businesses.

This is a great opportunity to share your experiences and explain what you do to stay focused. Many leaders buy into the myth that they should have all the answers. However, one of the marks of a great leader is the ability to admit to not knowing everything. This admission adds authenticity to your leadership style and shows that you’re willing to learn and improve. Perhaps your team member has it all dialed and can share their tips with you. Or, maybe you can work together to brainstorm ideas to rise above the challenge together.

There’s no doubt that 2020 is shaping up to be a strange year. However, through all of this strangeness lies the opportunity to learn and adjust how we do things. Many of the most successful leaders are adept at adapting to changes in the market, the circumstances of the business, etc. Although they can’t predict the challenges that will arise, they can prepare mentally for them and cultivate a business practice that responds and adapts to the changes that do occur.

Most importantly, they share their knowledge and experiences with their teams. This is not only to offer advice to help struggling team members thrive; it is also to show their teams that they go through similar struggles and are able to succeed regardless.  This fosters credibility and trust, which in turn strengthens the relationship.

Achieving success one Power Hour at a time

Teamzy was created to help network marketers make their businesses one of their top priorities and build their businesses one Power Hour (or less) at a time. It allows you to focus on the top advocates in your network who drive your business, while you build relationships with everyone in your network. Instead of wasting time trying to figure out who to contact first and then who to message next, Teamzy does it for you. Simply log in to get a list of people to reach out to and follow up with each day. Since the frequency of contact is based on the relationship you have with each person in your network, you don’t have to worry about contacting someone too little or too often. And, if you’re not sure how to start your message or follow up, look at the scripts provided to get some ideas, or copy/paste them into the message window. It’s super easy!  Set aside the time and Teamzy will take care of heavy lifting from there.
