Do You Have Heart in Your Business?

Why did you start your network marketing business? Perhaps it’s because you saw great results with the product or service and want to help others facing the same issues. Or, maybe you really believe in the product and want to share it with the world. Or, maybe you wanted to break free from the nine to five and make money on your own terms. Whatever your reason, there’s one thing at the center of it – heart.

You put your heart and soul into your business. When your business becomes such an important part of you, you’re more likely to do what you need to do to help it succeed. This means doing your daily activities, following up with your clients, and asking for introductions to grow your network. Your heartset is as important as your mindset on your journey to success.

The role of your heartset in success

Everyone talks about having a positive mindset. Now, your mindset is super important. After all, what you think and how you think will inevitably become your reality. If you think you’re going to succeed, you will. If you consistently doubt yourself, you’ll unintentionally create roadblocks on your journey. By thinking positively and filling your mind with the good stuff, you’ll build the great habits that are essential to success.

However, your heartset is at the core of your business and who you are. It’s where your heart is and where you work from. Your heart not only drives you in your business, it also motivates your customers to buy from you and inspires prospects and your team to emulate what you do. They not only love you and your business, but you also love your business as well. If you want to have a profitable business that you love, your heart must be at its core. And, if you want to lead a team of motivated and inspired people, you have to lead from the heart as well.

Cultivate your heartset

There are three aspects of cultivating heart-centered leadership in your business: the heart to serve, the heart to help, and the heart to love. You likely practice these things daily without even realizing it.

Have the heart to serve

This means putting the needs of others before your own. When working with your network, it translates to listening for a need to fill and looking for a way to serve. Although your network may mention a need offhand or even directly, many may not mention it at all. It’s up to you to look for clues. If they mention they’re trying to eat healthier or that their child just took up a sport with smelly equipment, that’s your cue to mention how your business can help them.

Similarly, your team knows you have their back; it’s up to you to show it regularly. If they’re new to network marketing, work more closely with them so that they adopt the healthier habits of network marketing. Explain how you work and the difference it makes in your life and business. Many may have been burned by traditional sales methods in the past; it’s up to you to show them how to nurture relationships with their networks. Share with them any struggles you faced when you were just starting out; they’ll be able to see that any challenges or anxiety they’re facing now isn’t permanent and they can get beyond it.

For those on your team who have been network marketers for longer, check in with them and ask about any challenges they may be facing. While some may be eager to open up, others may need more prodding. Be sure to ask open-ended questions and listen to their answers. If you’ve faced a similar issue before, explain how you overcame it. If not, then offer suggestions to help them work through it. It often helps to brainstorm ideas for possible solutions to a challenge.

Even if your team isn’t facing any challenges right now, the act of checking on them and following up shows you care about them and their success. It reinforces your relationship with them and shows that you’re invested in helping them grow their businesses.

Have the heart to help

If you’re like many network marketers, one of the reasons you got into this business was to help people. It’s with this heart to help that you’ll grow your business. With your customers, it’s easy to express your heart to help – look for needs to fill. Additionally, if your business is unable to help them, think of one that can. For example, if your business is health related, but a customer mentions a skincare need, connect them with someone in your network with a skincare business. Not only are you helping your customer solve a problem, you’re also helping someone in your network grow their business.

With your team, help comes in many forms. In addition to helping them to overcome challenges, you can also help them grow professionally as well. Seek out opportunities to help them learn and grow so they can offer their best selves to their networks. This includes training as well as books or other resources that can help them improve their skills as businesspeople. Have the heart to help them get to the next level in their businesses so they can reach their goals and improve their lives.

Whether they’re new to business or have been at it for a while, there will come a time when they feel as if they’ve plateaued. You’ve likely reached that point in your business as well and have had to overcome it in order to grow your business. Put yourself in their shoes and be a resource to them to help them get through it. Direct them to training and always encourage them to work on improving their skills and expertise. The industry is always changing, but one thing doesn’t change and that’s the commitment one has toward the business. In order to grow their businesses, they have to grow their minds. Guide them along the way and offer help when they need it.

Have the heart to love

Love is an action. It’s what you do every day – the practical things you do for your team to show you love them.

Celebrate their successes

When someone on your team achieves a milestone, has a banner sales month, or completed a Power Hour every day, give them a shout out. Congratulate them personally, but also call it out when you meet with your whole team. Shout it out on social media so their networks can see as well. It’ll make them feel great as well as provide encouragement to everyone else to keep doing the work. Additionally, it shows that you care about them and are happy to see them succeed.

Offer encouragement

Everyone needs a cheerleader on their side to keep them motivated. Offer encouragement to your team, especially when they need it the most. It could be an inspirational quote, a suggestion for a book to read or a podcast to listen to, or just a simple “You’re doing great!”

Follow up with heart

We always say following up is an act of love, and it is. It shows you’ve taken the time to do what you said you would and check in with them. It could be to answer a question, address a concern, or just say “Hey! Hope you’re having a great day!” it doesn’t matter what you say; it only matters that you do it and do it consistently.

Each of these actions are things you do to show you care about your team. Their success is yours.
