Get Motivated!

You made it into the second quarter of the year. You may be riding high on some great successes so far. Perhaps you are close to where you think you should be at this time of year in regard to your goals. However, many social sellers aren’t so lucky. Although many network marketers began the year with high motivation, excited to achieve all of their goals, many have felt that motivation begin to wane. This is normal. It’s impossible for motivation to remain high. Those who have a motivation that remains high are either born that way or have developed habits that help them maintain their motivation. While we can’t help in the first respect, we can help you develop the habits to keep your motivation high. Here’s how to get motivated!

Reconnect to your goals

The first way to maintain your motivation is to reconnect to your goals. We always advocate for checking in with your goals on a regular basis. What regular means depends on the person. Many network marketers check in with their goals every quarter, and others check in with their goals more or less frequently. One thing is clear, those who check in with their goals more often or more likely to achieve success. Why? Because their goals always remain at the top of their minds. Since their goals are always at the forefront, they are always in touch with what they want to achieve. This gives them the drive to succeed each day.

Get motivated: A Tale of two network marketers

Let’s use an example. Liz wakes up in the morning and she’s tired. She doesn’t want to work on her business. In fact, she’s not even sure who to call first. Perhaps she doesn’t have a system to follow that helps her stay on track. She doesn’t check in with her goals ever. Although she sets ambitious goals in January, by March and April she’s long forgotten about them. They may be written on a Post-It note that had been thrown away long ago. Or they’re stored in her phone on an app she hardly uses. Although she set out the year with a lot of motivation and a desire to achieve success, a few minutes into the year she is spent.

Conversely, Jane wakes up in the morning motivated to succeed. She has a system (Teamzy) in place that helps her stay organized. It also lets her know who to contact each day. Her list of people to call each day is linked with the goals she set for the year. When she wants to review her goals, which she does at least once a month, she can simply click into her system and see her goals as well as her progress toward them. There is no guessing game. She always knows where she stands. About a month ago, she had a setback and was unable to work on her business for a week. However, when she was able to log into her system, she was able to review her goals. This gave her Insight into what she needed to do to get back on track. And that she did. Every time she feels her motivation starts to diminish, she checks in with her goals and feels a surge of motivation.

The lesson

Although many of us would like to be like jane, the truth is we are like Liz. We’re excited to set our goals in January and can’t wait to achieve them; however, as we get into the new year and life happens, it can be easy to lose track of our goals. The good news is we can become more like Jane. How? By checking in with our goals. How often you check in with your goals is up to you. You may find that checking in with them once a month is enough to help you stay on track. Or, you may find that you need to check in with your goals once a week. This is entirely up to you. The point is to keep your goals top of mind. Not only will this help you achieve those goals, but it’ll also help you stay motivated along the way.

Reconnect with your team

How do you feel after you reconnect with your team? Do you feel refreshed and eager to take on the world? Do you feel like anything is possible after you connect with them? Many people feel motivated after connecting with other motivated people. Even if when you meet you’re not feeling so motivated, after you chat for a little while, that is sure to turn around. As you begin to share ideas, discuss challenges and solutions, and generally catch up on life, you begin to feel your attitude turn around. Connecting with others can do wonders for your motivation.

If you are leading a team, you may connect with them on a regular basis. Perhaps you have monthly meetings or individual check-ins once a week. This is the perfect opportunity to boost not only your motivation but the motivation of those on your team. If you have someone on your team who is always motivated and positive, have them share first. This may even be you. And starting out with that surge of motivation can help other people feel motivated as well. Let’s face it, if you’re not motivated you’re probably not the only one.

At this time of year, many people begin to lose their motivation. As hours of daylight get longer, there seems to be more to do. For many people, this may mean that their business takes a back seat. Unfortunately for them, spring and summer are often busy times for social selling. We’re getting outside in the warm sunshine and doing more socializing than we ordinarily would. This is an excellent time to talk about your business with others, especially those who are not familiar with what you do and the services you offer. But if you’re not motivated, you won’t recognize this opportunity. Connecting with your team helps you all get on the same page and become more motivated. After all, you may feel more motivated when working with your team towards the common goal of achieving your goals.

Focus

Focus and motivation often go hand in hand. It can be tough to feel motivated when your attention is all over the place. Many of us struggle to focus, especially during the spring and summer when we’d rather be doing something more fun than work. What’s good about social selling is that you get to do what you love, connecting with people you like and enjoy spending time with, while building a business. However, even the most social butterfly can suffer from a lack of motivation. And this lack of motivation can prevent them from focusing on building a business.

Improve your focus with motivation. So, what motivates you? Is it a song, or perhaps it is a saying or a verse, or maybe it is a burst of exercise to get the endorphins going. Whatever it is that motivates you, be sure to do it when you feel your motivation starting to fall. If you feel that you can’t focus and your attention is everywhere, listen to that motivating song. Or, read that motivating quote or verse. Do some jumping jacks. After you do this activity, you’re sure to feel a surge of motivation. It’ll also be much easier to focus. Use this time to get on the track, do your power hour, and work on your business.

Connect with your network

Your team isn’t the only one that you should connect with, you should also connect with the people in your network. Connect with others to boost your motivation. Start with your advocates. These are the people who are the foundation of your business. They’re also, more than likely, the people who you enjoy the most. They believe in you and your business. You may feel excited to be able to talk to them and connect with them. Use this to your advantage. The more you connect with them, the more motivated you’ll feel, and coincidentally, the more business you may bring in. Connecting with your network allows you to reconnect with the reason why you got into social selling in the first place. You wanted to help people. You wanted to serve them and help them reach their goals. What’s more motivating than that?
