Mid-Year Goal Check-in

We’re midway through the year. You know what time it is: it’s time for a goal check-in. While some of you may conduct regular, if not monthly, reviews of your goals, the majority of network marketers do not check in with their goals during the year. As a result, when we reach the end of the year, many people are surprised by how little progress they’ve made toward their goals. Often, we set goals at the beginning of the year with the best of intentions thinking that not only will we remember what they are, but also that we will complete them on time. In reality, we often set and then forget a month or two later.

By the middle of the year, we only have a vague recollection of what our goals are, and by the end of the year, we may have forgotten that we even set goals in the first place. The most successful people know that they must set goals if they want to achieve everything they’ve set up for in their business. So, whether you set goals in January that you’ve completely forgotten about or you still need to set goals for the year, will help you assess your progress.

Why you should do a goal check-in

At the beginning of the year, we are usually excited to achieve more in the year ahead. We’re feeling extra motivated to thrive. This motivation is fantastic. However, it goes away seemingly as quickly as it arrived. Often, by February or March, this motivation has left us. Although it is easy enough to get it back, many people aren’t sure how. So, how do you get this motivation back? By reconnecting with the goals that you set in January.

A goal check-in is more than just remembering the goals you set. It’s reading your goals, and thinking about why you set them and your intention behind them. Why did you want to increase your sales by 10% each month? Why do you want to add three people to your network each month? This helps you reconnect with your why, and your reason for getting into network marketing in the first place. The more you remember your why, the more likely you’ll be to achieve your goals at the end of the year.

The other benefit of conducting a goal check-in mid-year is that you can see how close you are to achieving your goals. You may have been super motivated and ambitious in January, but then challenges and setbacks could have thrown you for a curve. Conversely, you could have had a banner year so far and the goals you set in January were not ambitious enough. A goal check-in allows you to see how close you are to achieving those goals that you said and make course corrections if necessary.

How to do a goal check-in

A goal check-in is easy to do.

Review

First, review your goals. If you are using Teamzy, this entails logging in and looking at your goals. If you don’t use Teamzy, pull out where you saved your goals. It could be in a Word or Google Document, a spreadsheet, and notes app, or wherever. The most important thing is that you have them saved somewhere so that you can read them and access them readily.

Intention

Next, think about your intention behind setting the goal. What did you hope to achieve? What sort of business did you see running by the end of the year? Given the challenges and victories you’ve had this year, are these goals still achievable? This is the core question. If you set ambitious goals in January and you don’t seem on track to achieve them by July, there is still hope that you can achieve them by the end of the year. However, you may have to adjust your work schedule to accommodate working on your business more often. Additionally, you may have to adjust your goals so that they are more ambitious for the remaining months of the year. Achievement is still in sight, but you may have to work harder to get there.

Plan

Third, think about what you’ll have to do to achieve your goals. If you’re on track to reach your goals by the end of the year, then this means continuing to do what you’re doing. You may even consider ramping it up in the fall so that you can relax more around the holidays. If you are behind, or you think it will be a struggle to achieve your goals, you have several options to consider. The first is that you increase your workload. By adding an extra power hour or two each week, you may be able to achieve your goals in time.

The second option and this is used if there is no chance that you will achieve your goals by the end of the year, is to reset your goals. This means that you’ll adjust your numbers to something more feasible. For example, if you said that you wanted to increase your sales by 10% each month, but you’re struggling to increase it by five percent, then it may be a good idea to reduce your goal percentage to 5%. In this way, you’re still challenging yourself, but you’re challenging yourself more realistically. This allows you to not give up on your goal, but to reassess and reset your goal to something more achievable.

Write it down

If you have reassessed and rewritten your goals, be sure to write them down. This is the only way that you’ll remember it. If you have a visual reminder of your goals nearby, that is easily accessible to you, you’re more likely to read your goals and check in with them. Document your goals in Teamzy or place your goals somewhere that you will see them regularly. This will help you keep them top of mind so that you don’t forget what you are working toward.

Get motivated

The best thing about a goal check-in is that it can help you become more motivated. If you struggle to reclaim your motivation earlier in the year, reviewing your goals allows you to get back in touch with them. It helps you remember exactly what you want to achieve. If you are feeling a shortage of motivation at any point during the remainder of the year, reviewing your goals will help you remember what you’re trying to accomplish this year personally and in your business.

We recommend reviewing your goals regularly to keep them top of mind. The term regularly depends on you. If you need to review your goals weekly to keep on top of mind, and be sure to do that on a regular basis. Similarly, if you need to review them every month, then that is “regularly” for you. The key is to make doing a goal check-in a productive and useful experience.
