What is Success? Define It So You Can Share It

Ask any network marketer what they would like to achieve for their business and they will all answer one thing: success. Everyone wants to succeed. Many network marketers, once they have the skills and training, or a good mentor or coach, can develop the habits that will help them on the path to success. Although preparation can build the foundation for success it is no guarantee of it. Additionally, what is success? What one person would deem successful may not be the same as someone else. So, how can you strive to achieve something when it’s so different from other people? Today we’re going to help you not only to find it but also help you share it with your network and team.

Define success

What is your definition of success? Is it having all the money in the world? Perhaps it’s having more free time than you know what to do with. Or, perhaps it’s having enough money to pay for an unexpected expense. Everyone has a different definition. Even people who are very similar and their outlooks have different definitions. Some people strive to be the best in their business. They want to make the most money and have the biggest business. Other people strive to be comfortable. They don’t need to be the best salesman or have the most money; they just want to have enough so that they don’t have to worry about expenses or bills that pop up. Still, other people wish to be rich in time. Although money is important, it is not the most important thing to them. They want to have the luxury of time, meaning that their work does not take up all of their time. Instead, they want to spend their time with their family, their hobbies, or anything else that they enjoy.

Why success is personal

For many, their definition of success is a reflection of their values and their why. This is why it’s so personal. You could have two people who’ve had the same experiences and upbringings, and chances are they’ll have very different definitions of success. And that’s fine. Once you’re able to define what it is to you then it’s easier to focus on the tasks and activities you need to do to make it a reality.

Achieve it

Once you’ve defined success, it’s time to get to work to refine your definition and plan to achieve it. For many, the definition aligns with their why. It’s often easier if these align. That way it’s easier to make decisions when challenging situations arise.

Write it down

It’s easier for things to stay top of mind if you write them down. Once you’ve defined what success is to you, write it down and post it somewhere where you can find it easily to review it. Keep in mind that your definition of success may change over time. This is normal. As you gain more experience in your business and life you may find that your definition begins to evolve. Roll with it. This can help you adjust the goals that you have each year that act as milestones on your way to success.

Commit to it

Success takes commitment. Once you’ve defined it, commit to it. Commitment shows that you take your success seriously. You want to achieve it and you are focused on doing so. This makes it easier to create a plan that you will be able to follow, even when challenges arise.

Plan

Planning and preparation are essential for success. If you see it you will achieve it. Many people aspire to it but don’t create a plan to follow, particularly one that takes into account their skills, expertise, and experience. It’s difficult to achieve success right now if you do not have the skills, experience, or expertise to do so. The good news is over time you will build all three of these things, especially if you’re focused on personal growth and development. This should be part of the plan as well. Set the smart goals that you will achieve. What activities will you do each day to help you achieve your goals? Look into training and development courses that can help you improve your skills and expertise. Find coaches and mentors who can help you along the path. Although it is never guaranteed, you can build the foundation for it by creating a plan, and most importantly following it.

Share it

They say sharing is caring, right? Share your success with others, both your definition of it and your pursuit of it. This will not only show others that you are serious about your success, but it may even inspire them to define success for themselves. If you’re nervous about sharing your definition with others, don’t be. Remember everyone’s definition is different. Additionally, we all bloom in our own time.

Sharing not only inspires others to think about their definition of success and create goals to get there, but it also provides an extra layer of accountability for you. Once you make your definition and your goals known to others, it allows them to follow up with you on them to see how you are progressing towards them. Since it’s only human to not want to disappoint, we feel more motivated to focus on achieving this definition of success. This also leaves a foundation to make the success real.

Encourage your team to define it for themselves

The people you may want to inspire the most are your team. You want them to achieve success on their terms. However, they don’t know what those terms are if they haven’t defined success for themselves. What works for one person may not work for another, and that’s fine. Encourage your team to figure out what success means to them. During your regular meetings, You may wish to lead them through an exercise that allows them to Define success for themselves. If they’re not sure how to define it, walk them through it and the process of trying to find their why. This will get them thinking about this definition, and once they’ve figured it out, encourage them to set goals to help make it a reality. Encourage your team to share their definitions of success as well as the goals they’ve set during your regular meetings. This will provide an extra layer of accountability for them as well. And, be sure to follow up with them to see how they are progressing and if there’s anything you can do to help.
